Our project manager was immediately able to capture the essence of our business and execute our marketing plan with ease. In just three months we had a new website, database, newsletter, marketing materials, great written content and an event program in place. It’s now all working really well. Marketing is now an essential ingredient for our business success.
When I ask many small business owners what their number one reason for being in business is, the typical answer is "to make money". While that seems obvious, when I probe deeper there are many other reasons like personal satisfaction, flexibility, work/life balance and to make a difference to others.
Many years ago my seven year old son Billy and I were on holidays interstate. As we walked out of a department store, a homeless man sitting in the gutter asked for 50 cents.
Billy stopped me and said "wait Mum, I want to help that man." He reached into my handbag, pulled out his own pocket money, walked back to the man and gave him his last $3.
I am proud to have a son with a social conscience. As business owners this story has much to teach us. If we are in business to help our clients and to help our community, then financial success will ultimately follow.
Don't underestimate the power of you and your business to make a difference. Community giving programs need to be an important part of your business strategy. And it's not just about writing a cheque:
What would that say to your clients and employees about you and your business? What if you incentivised your clients to pay their invoices by the due date and in return you donate 5% of the total amount to your sponsor charity? That's good for your cash flow, good for your charity and makes a positive statement to your client about your company's values.
I challenge you to make this year the one to make more of a difference to your community. I guarantee you will enjoy the many rewards to come your way.
